React Engineer

We’re at a turning point in history. Climate change is changing the world faster than ever before. Utilities will play a crucial role in the transformation of our society to fight climate change and become carbon-neutral, while at the same time making sure people and businesses can continue to use energy supply like they’ve been used to for so many years.

At Gorilla, we’re determined to not stay stand by, but to make a real impact on the utility industry by providing data services that allow utilities to play the role they need to play in the quest for a net-zero society. By building something that solves a real problem, and by being the best at what we do.

Your role

Our fast-paced product team is on the lookout for a new teammate that writes beautiful code. You’re well-versed in the art of front-end web development, with a true passion for React development. You have experience in building web applications; top-class frontends.

You work as part of a multidisciplinary team, where your expertise is a vital part of our product’s success. Building, delivering and iterating, you consistently develop and improve functionalities, while optimising for the best user experience. Next to that, you guarantee seamless integration with our back-end and engine as well.

We believe in giving people responsibility and control over their work: as one of our engineers, we expect you to rise to the challenge of working end-to-end on our features, from the first estimate to qualitative delivery to a much improved second and third version.

To stay ahead of the curve, you love to dive into different technologies and new innovations. Every two weeks, our meetups are the platform for you to share and expand your knowledge and technology expertise. And you’ll always get to learn from your team members too!

Your responsibilities

  • You turn product requirements and UI designs into high-quality features for our clients.
  • You write clear, maintainable code, mainly in Typescript (React), through the use of agile development standards and guidelines.
  • You make sure you deliver a performant and stable codebase.

Your qualifications

  • You have at least 3 years of experience as a react engineer, and were already writing javascript when jQuery was your only resort;
  • You have experience with building applications with Webpack, ES6, React, Saga and Redux (Material-UI is a plus);
  • You are comfortable with test-driven development;
  • In order to keep learning, you love to keep hunting for what the React ecosystem has to offer next;
  • Just like us, you believe in progressive enhancement to push cutting-edge technology into your applications;
  • You are motivated to audit, profile and enhance the user experience;
  • You create reusable code by developing libraries that can be used across multiple projects or even open-source your best work;
  • You love to read up on the newest front-end innovation, whether it is about service workers, PWA’s, Accessibility or WebAssembly;
  • In a fast-growing environment, you’re always looking to improve and adapt to the best way of working;
  • Experience with working in Scrum is a big plus.

What you get

You become part of an ambitious organisation and an enthusiastic team with a mindset to win! As Gorilla is growing at an incredible pace, you can leave your mark – growing alongside Gorilla.

We actively challenge ourselves and our colleagues, in order to always improve our skills, methodology and capabilities. Lifelong learning is essentially embedded in our organisation, and we care about your individual dreams and ambitions, beyond just work.

On top of that, our remuneration approach is clear and no-nonsense, just like our feedback culture and personal development approach. You’ll be able to join a team from wherever you’d like to work – equipped with the best technology for remote work. We’ll provide access to an office space near you whenever you like, as well as frequent travels to meet your colleagues in person, making sure you’ll never feel lonely.
